Research-informed Professional Learning
Dr Helen Coker
Hello, Digital Learning Matters is me, Helen Coker (PhD). I am passionate about the potential of digital technology for learning. After years researching online and professional learning, and designing successful modules and courses, my mission is to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
Research and theory: how we know and understand learning, provide the foundations for effective learning design. Understanding how they relate to the digital context ensures online and hybrid learning design is robust and provides a transformative experience for your learners.
Whether you are new to online and hybrid learning and looking for an introduction or an experienced learning designer or technologist looking to deepen your understanding and engage with current research, my bespoke workshops and consultancy will meet your needs.
Online Workshops
Join a group of likeminded professionals in an active and research-informed workshop which will build your understanding and develop your skills.
Each workshop is followed by a one-to-one mentor session to support you to apply your learning to your own professional needs.

Consultancy Services
1
Professional Development
I provide Professional Learning which bridges the research/theory-practice gap. Drawing on both foundational learning theories and cutting-edge methodologies I work with teams to develop their knowledge and skills. Through taking a practice-based approach which examines the systems in which online and hybrid learning are delivered we identify key drivers, deepening understanding and knowledge, which you can apply to real-world problems, providing strong foundations for meaningful and transformative learning solutions.
2
Online Facilitation
Facilitating learning online is not the same as face-to-face. If you are looking to develop experiential, collaborative or critically reflective learning experiences, you need to move beyond the 'question-answer-comment' script. I work with new and experienced online facilitators, developing online delivery skills. This includes (but is not limited to) building relationships, utilising the advantages of online learning and using a range of tools and approaches to engage participants, enable dialogue and collaboration, and stimulate reflection.
3
Learning Design
I work with teams at all levels: introducing new Learning Designers to the fundamentals of learning, developing knowledge and skills for specific learning designs, and enabling experienced learning design teams to develop innovative, sustainable and impactful learning experiences through engagement with knowledge and research at the forefront.
